Andre 3000′s Benjamin Bixby Launches In Toronto

During the FB Intern Contest, candidate Jemise reported that GQ has already lauded Andre Benjamin(also known as Andre 3000 of Outkast) as a designer to watch. In further news, his line, BENJAMIN BIXBY, debuted its Spring ‘09 collection this past Wednesday at Holt Renfrew in Vuitton’s ‘hood, Canada.

As Dre describes it, “The BENJAMIN BIXBY man is a rebel gent. He likes classics with extraordinary styling.” For the Spring collection, the inspiration is Colonial India–”the black madras tux, the over-dyed polo with underarm details and the khaki cotton suit with a map of India lining.” Interesting. If there’s one celeb I have faith in to produce a clothing line based on something other than vanity and potential profits, it’s definitely 3000.

Kanye West Links Up With Louis Vuitton

After fighting with a couple paparazzies and getting his “new school” mullet shaped up, there’s nothing Kanye West would like to do, besides singing out-of-tone on melancholy beats, more than design clothing for his up and coming line, Pastel. But it seems as if Mr. West has linked up with another legendary name in the fashion game, Louis Vuitton. This Spring Louis Vuitton will be dropping several collaborations with Kanye ranging from low top men’s casusal shoes to high top mainstream shoes. But with these two names on the ticket for these kicks there comes a pretty hefty price to pay for them. With prices ranging from $840 to $1140 some parents might be taking second down payments on their house to buy a pair of these shoes for their children.

“Moore” Than What Meets The Eye

Maya Moore, a current fashion concentrated journalist major at Columbia College in Chicago, recently sat down with me to discuss her current take on the world of urban-fashion and her “Do’s -N- Don’ts”, in terms of attire. Moore recently was a part of one of Columbia’s biggest fashion events, “Kullision”. Working as a stage-hand and organizer for the show, it wasn’t hard to tell that Moore’s future within fashion is one that stretches way further than a runway.

Q: If you could sum up the definition of fashion in one word, what would it be?

A: Fun, because the overall feel of fashion is just exciting and allows for people to be creative, different, and dress up all at the same time. Its like playing with Barbie.

Q: When did you first realize fashion was what you wanted to pursue?

A: After going to several fashion shows with my mother as a child. She was a hair stylist for several shows and as I went along with her to the shows I knew I wanted to be a part of what was going on.

Q: What do you believe is the current hottest fashion trend floating around?

A: I don’t like trends. I just think people should choose what they want to wear and trends just cause everybody to look the same. For instance, at this very moment I bet there are several people whom are going to read this post whom have a closet full of plaid shirts, skinny jeans, and “Justin Bobby” hats [beanies]. I don’t believe in trends.

Q: Are there any “pop culture” figures you believe to have a good sense of style?

A: They all look the same to me. (laughs) But for some reason I think the characters on the show “Gossip Girl” have a nice way of dressing,

Q: With all of that said, what are the top do’s and don’ts of fashion?

A: Accessorize, but don’t over accessorize!
